TrentBarton 182, Kimberley, 1999
A poor scan of an ageing slide, brand new 182 is seen on the rebranded Rainbow 1 on route to Alfreton via Jacksdale.
The red "Infopole" on the right was internally lit, and housed an LCD real-time displ on the far side behind teh metal panel below the stop flag. Early generation kit, the contrast wqas not great and the "automatic" adjustment needed regualr attention. I lost a lot of skin on my knuckles sliding those panels in and out!
The system was not without issues on this route. It had worked well on Rushcliffe Line and Cotgrave, but hilly areas were difficult as radio communication relies on line of sight. The primary base station for this route was on Eastwood Library, with recievers on Nottingham's Victoria Centre and Clipstone Colliery headstocks used to fill in gaps, but even then black spots occured, notably (and ironically) around Langley Mill! I learned more about radio that I wished at that time.
This particular vehicle ended up in New Zealand.
