High Peak 788, Derby Bus Station, 07-01-2017
The livery may be familiar, but the comfort isn't! An effort was made several years ago now to revive the Transpeak using a mix of Excels and Volvo coaches to a higher frequency, as part of the Rural Bus Challenge initiative. The three year scheme was intended to boost patronage and revenue to allow the service to become commercially viable.
Sadly, the service could not be maintained, and eventually Wellglade merged their Buxton operations with Centrebus owned Bowers. Transpeak was cut back to no longer serve Nottingham - Derby, an frequencies beyond Buxton culled to just three per day although Derby - Buxton remains at the hourly headway. Ticket interavailabilty with TrentBarton services was lost, and indeed even Derbyshire Wayfarer tickets are no longer valid on the service.
