Nottingham (Bus), 22-02-2014
NCT 911, Upper Parliament St Nottingham, 22-02-2014
911-2014_02220126 911 turns into Milton Street with a 68 to Bulwell via Nottingham Road. This is a complicated mix of former routes. Traditionally, services to Bulwell ran via Radford Road, Vernon Road and Highbury Vale - a routing dating back to horse tram days! The services were 43/75 (Trent Bridge - Bulwell Market/Crabtree Farm), and 44/71 (Colwick Woods - Bulwell Hall / Rise Park) - the routes being the last to use AEC Renowns, much to my joy as a child travelling to grandparents! Nottingham Road was served by service to Cinderhill - and numbered 41 and 42 - and beyond by Notts & Derby to Ripley - the forerunner of todays Rainbow 1, all with trams and later trolleybuses before motorbuses took over. When NET started, bus services along Highbury Vale and Vernon Road were reduced, and routed away from Hyson Green - the cynic would say to encourage tram use!
