THe 0740 Limerick - Heuston is the prime up bsiness service from the third city to Dublin, and in loco-hauled days had a full restaurant service and was regula and standing from Portlaoise. These days, the more modest catering of an ICR buffet is deemed sufficient, and five cars rather than the previous seven or eight. Even so, it was slightly depressing to note that there were many spare seats as this train left Portlaoise, possibly in part down to summer holidays, but also perhaps indicative that Ireland's economic "recovery" is still focussed within the M50.
