Martley's 10-LS-6876, Grattan St Portlaoise, 16-04-2019
In poor weather the first run of the new service 834 from Roscrea to Portlaoise arrives in the county town. Contracted by Local Link, the service is operated by Martley's, and this Scania Omncity has been branded for the service, following on form their earier contract win for the Newbridge - Athy service.
The service replaces stops on JJ Kavanagh's 735 service, which is a trunk route between Limerick and Dublin. The private company kept to the traditional model on the route of serving local communites as part of long distance services, but in the modern age passengers from Limerick to Dublin really don't want to be delayed calling at small villages, while local traffic going to the towns to do their shopping wil find low floor vehicles such as this much more suitable. At present, the service operates three times per day in each direction, seven days per week - other services covering early morning an evening journeys. It is to be hoped that the service will grow in the future.
