Bus Stops James Fintan Lawlor Ave Portlaoise, 26-04-2016
This is the sort of mess that the NTA should really be trying to sort out, but in fact appear to be adding to. Three bus stop pole clutter the boarding area. The NTA one has been preprinted with route information, but not in a way which allows easy amendment - hence the untidy blanking out of the former 828A. The Dublin Coach stop is the highest quality, but while the timetable information appears up to date, there is a supplementary notice referring to St Patricks Day changes - three years ago! The Bus Éireann pole has a timetable case, but the information is in the case in the new shelter. I presume the Adshel contract is with Bus Éireann, as the information in the case has only their services. This has a pole attached (with no flag), at the correct end of the shelter (ie so passengers can queue facing the oncoming bus), but if a bus stops there it blocks the road - which happens any when as scheduled there are two buses there at the same time. There is no raised kerb; in fact, where buses stop, there is NO kerb. In short, the whole stopping area is poor and needs redesigning from the ground up. The Adshel contract needs reassigning to the NTA, and standard information on ALL services - not just CIÉ Group or NTA funded services - needs to be provided.
